ever wondered why the americans skate so much better than us ? yes/no ?
well heres my 10p worth...
its all down to terrain(and i'm not talking "street"),take a look at any concrete american park and compare it to the ones here in the uk.with the obvious exceptions of saffron walden, shoreham etc all of the new parks are so fucking small.it seems that designers/builders won't go over 5-6 foot deep, whereas virtually all concrete parks in the states have at least one bowl or pool thats 10foot+ deep.
its about time designers/builders upped their game and started to build something worth skating.
yeah theres all the bullshit about beginners are too scared/haven't got the ability/can't do anything cos its too big etc-what a load of crap!!! who says you have to drop in the deep end first time you skate a bowl ? why not start on the flat and learn to ride/carve from there, and when you've got that down move up to dropping in ?
take a look at the parks i've mentioned above, when they were built people who had never ridden anything of this size wouldn't go in,but after a short time they discovered the joy of skating a real sized bowl/pool,the fear disappeared and the stoke takes over, theres far more fun to be had in something deep and steep than in a bowled out miniramp.its not easy, but thats skateboarding,it ain't easy-but its worth it.
i know of a park thats going to be built this year that wants to be a world class venue, hold competitions and attract the best skaters out there.some well known figures on the uk skate "scene" have been consulted about the design, and in their "expert" opinion the main pool should be 6foot deep,4foot shallow-WTF!!! thats not a pool, thats a fucking pothole.if these people get their way we'll end up with just another tiny bowl for the miniramp/rock fakie/kickflip brigade, when we could have something truly special.
its about time we on this side of the pond start to build proper skateparks and not just the piddling little chav magnets we call parks.if we don't the yanks will always be miles ahead of us,when in this country we have some truly outstanding skaters(and a lot who aren't) who'll never reach their best as they get pissed off riding the same small restricting shite that passes for skaeparks.

pushing mongo and proud of it
on forums and at skateparks all over the world front foot pushers are looked down upon and ridiculed, why ?
for the simple reason its more fashionable to push "regular",nothing to do with balance, how it looks or foot placement for tricks, and if you think it does, well theres no hope left for you is there...?
over the past 15-20 years as skateboarding has become more and more mainstream, certain styles, tricks and attitudes to skating seem to have become more important than actually riding the bloody things, and pushing with the front foot is deemed the worst sin of all.
its really pathetic that skaters have to hate on each over such a meaningless thing as how you push,if you don't like it-don't do it,if you don't like how it looks-don't watch,if you think it screws up foot placement for tricks-lets see what YOU'VE got.
and to all the regular pushing sheep out there don't tell me how to fucking skate,
mongo and proud for 20+ years
mongo and proud for the next 20 years...
